F&W Networks visited South Godstone on Sunday 20th November 2022 and presented to over 50 members of our community. During the presentation, F&W Networks confirmed they will be building the fibre network in our village, with the surveyors visiting the village early 2023 to plan the design and build.

Recap
We all currently receive terrestrial telephony and broadband services through copper wire which runs from the green boxes on the sides of our roads to our homes and businesses. The feed from the telephone exchange to the boxes is either fibre or copper wire. The copper wire is old and deteriorating rapidly, the degradation is not helped by vehicles parked or driving over the areas where buried cables lie. Copper cable therefore can provide a slow and often unreliable service that may not cope with modern or future demand. This can cause buffering and slow transfer of data to and from mobile phones, computers, games consoles and smart TVs. For considerable time villagers had expressed their frustration at poor broadband speeds, but no action was forthcoming.

Voucher Scheme
Surrey County Council has championed rural and semi rural areas benefitting from full fibre broadband and drew attention to this by putting a card mailer through everyone’s door last year, giving detail of the Government Voucher Scheme. This scheme offers £1500 per property, and more for businesses, to help the funding of full fibre.
Full Fibre broadband offers a reliable, super fast connection through state of the art fibre cable straight from the telephone exchange to our properties. The days of devices showing a spinning wheel whilst data is transferred will be a thing of the past.
The Project
We approached several Government approved Full Fibre installation companies, and two were interested in providing fibre cable to properties in South Godstone. One wanted to cover only part of the village at considerable cost, which would have involved obtaining a large number of households to sign up and allocate their vouchers, more than we thought possible. Any shortfall payable by us.
F&W Networks were willing to install full fibre cable from exchange to about 900 properties. The project would be fully funded by F&W Networks and the Voucher Scheme. On the basis that we get about 300 households to allocate their vouchers to the project.
F&W Networks obtained full approval from the government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) on 4 July 2022 so it is all systems go.
Through the power of Facebook 'South Godstone Community Fibre Project' as well as 'South Godstone Community' pages together with 'South Godstone Residents’ Association’s website', we explained our intentions to push for full fibre broadband to almost every property in South Godstone.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
There are two parts to receiving broadband – the infrastructure that carries the signal together with the actual company that provides that signals. The latter is known as an Internet Service Provider or ISP. F&W Networks is a specialist full fibre infrastructure company, and provides the necessary technology through which the IPS supplies the signals.
Residents have been asking for more information about the ISPs offered on the F&W Networks cable and links to each of the current ISPs are below, more Internet Service Providers are due to offer services by the time South Godstone properties start to be fully cabled.
What you have to do
To express interest in receiving full fibre broadband to your home or business, complete the form below. Your details are taken exclusively for the fibre broadband project and you will be giving permission to pass these onto F&W Networks. The voucher application process can be started by F&W Networks for your property.
The process
When your details are passed to F&W Networks, they will upload them to a government portal which will then generate an email addressed to you from an email address of
funding.platform@notifications.service.gov.uk. The email subject is titled 'Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme – action required ' in that email is a clickable link which you are asked to follow in order to claim the voucher.
Once you receive your email from funding.platform@notifications.service.gov.uk then please do click on the link at the very earliest opportunity to allocate your voucher. There is a time limit of 28 days from the date of receipt of your email for that voucher to be claimed. Should you accidentally miss that deadline, please let us know and we will arrange for a new voucher to be reserved for you.
Some residents have reported an error Forbidden message when clicking on the link in the email from
funding.platform@notifications.service.gov.uk. If this happens, please let us know by email with the voucher number you have been allocated. There have been a few problems with the voucher link but we can resolve this for you. Note you need to be replying to the email from the same email address to which it was sent.
What next
Once you have followed the link and allocated your voucher to the project, you will get an email back from gvsadmin@culture.gov.uk confirming a voucher in your name was validated by you. That all to it!
At some point in the future you will choose which service provider and which type of broadband service you would like and more importantly what speed suit your household. Remember its only one voucher per household, and the person making the application should follow the system through from the same email address
If you haven't done anything yet
If you want to get Full Fibre and protect your household for future internet developments and increase your property value, just complete the sign up form below.
Many thanks for all those people who have supported the project and had their vouchers allocated, so many South Godstone residents are looking forward to getting Full Fibre, which we constantly seeing being advertised in the media, but which is not available for most of us.
F&W Networks will only lay the fibre cables for the infrastructure. If you're interested in connecting your home or business to the internet, please contact one of the broadband providers operating in the South Godstone area to sign up and select your broadband package.
